Launching … Entrepreneurship!

Launching … Entrepreneurship!

Starting your own business is something that most dream of but rarely Go Do. Launching our Scottish company, Tie Club, 5 years ago started with a lot of excitement as well as fear. Scotland has always offered chances for innovation but it is the first time that supporting new businesses is embodied within a well organised programme that actually offers the help that a business needs during its baby steps.

Our business has grown immensely during the past year through the support of Entrepreneurial Spark but the incredible journey has just begun. Moving offices at the brand new wing in the headquarters of Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh has already started unravelling the opportunities awaiting ahead of us.

Last week’s launch of the new offices included meeting major business and political leaders in person as well as being inspired by their speech during the launch.

RBS chief executive Ross McEwan told BBC Scotland: "My view is if you don't get small businesses growing, Scotland won't grow and the UK won't grow." And Alison Rose, chief executive of commercial and private banking at RBS, added: "We are determined to support entrepreneurs and the impact they make in driving the economy.’’

Having such influential people to back your dream up is something phenomenal in an era of economic crisis. But it seems that the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon got the idea right: "By giving budding entrepreneurs and ambitious companies a dedicated centre to develop an idea, RBS is providing them with a solid foundation to start from and hopefully play their part in building on Scotland's economic success."

Economic crisis can bring social crisis but through entrepreneurship it seems like small companies can actually inspire positive changes. Entrepreneurial Spark chief executive Jim Duffy said: "Our vision is to inspire and enable positive social change through the action of entrepreneuring, creating jobs and value in the economy.’’

The #GoDo mindset and the hard work displayed by all start-ups here at the Edinburgh Hatchery with companies like Double, Step it Up Dance, Commando Spirit, Clarus Site Solutions – just to mention a few- inspire our company to work harder every day and aim high.

And the results speak for themselves. Entrepreneurial Spark, having only been established since 2011, its levels of success are unbelievable. We are proud and honoured to be part of such a team and we, as the Tie Club team, promise that the best is yet to come.
